Why You Should Visit
The Shinkosai is the highlight of Nagata Shrine's autumn festival: the main mikoshi (portable shrine) and a women-carried mikoshi leave the shrine and are paraded through the surrounding parish. In 2026 it takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 18 October rather than the usual 19th, and on a shorter route than in past years. The main mikoshi travels between the shrine and Babasaki, with a planned display of the bearers jostling it at the east plaza beside the Shin-Minatogawa River, while the women's mikoshi loops back through the Nagata Jinja-mae shopping street. The departure in early afternoon and the return at dusk are the moments to catch, and anyone can watch from the roadside.
