Tetsujin Hiroba (Tetsujin 28 Monument) : Things to See & Do

Shin-Nagata was one of the areas hardest hit by the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. As a symbol of its recovery, the giant 18-meter Tetsujin 28 monument was installed in 2009. The manga's creator, Mitsuteru Yokoyama, was born in Nagata Ward, Kobe. Fourteen years after the earthquake, the monument was built through the collective wish of local residents hoping to revitalize the shopping district and rebuild their community. Today it stands as one of Shin-Nagata's signature attractions.
