Why You Should Visit

A free open-air music festival where steelpan — the Caribbean instrument born from oil drums — fills Tetsujin Hiroba in Shin-Nagata all day. One of the largest steelpan gatherings in western Japan: nine classes from the local Asuta Shin-Nagata Steelpan School play through the morning, and steel bands from across the country take the stage in the afternoon. You listen standing under the 18-metre Tetsujin 28 monument, and you can come and go as you like, so it pairs well with a walk through the nearby shopping arcades.
