Why You Should Visit

A monthly sale held from the 1st to the 3rd by the shopping street leading to Nagata Shrine, timed for the shrine's first-of-the-month visits. Each shop puts out bargains and limited items for that day only, and on the 1st the sidewalk fills with makers' stalls called Kobo Ichiza. Many shops on the street are over 50 years old. The name comes from the poppen, a glass toy once given out at Nagata Shrine. In October 2026, one-day offers include a rock-paper-scissors game for a free fish cake when you spend ¥1,000 on tempura at the kamaboko shop, and boiled squid legs reduced to ¥350 at the fishmonger.
