Kobe Shin-Nagata Ryukyu Festival 2026

Why You Should Visit

For one day, Tetsujin Hiroba in Shin-Nagata turns Okinawan at the Ryukyu Festival, now in its 24th year. Food and drink stalls with Okinawan flavours open at 11:00, and from 11:45 the stage runs dance and performing arts through the afternoon. At 15:30 an Eisa drum procession called michi-junee sets off from the Rokkenmichi 5-chome shopping street and winds through the Taisho-suji and Shin-Nagata Ichibangai arcades before arriving at the plaza. A good pick if you want Okinawan food, taiko drums and sanshin under the Tetsujin 28 monument.

Does it go ahead if it rains?

Yes. In wet weather the festival moves from Tetsujin Hiroba to the Rokkenmichi 5-chome shopping arcade.

What time is the Eisa procession?

It starts at 15:30, leaving the Rokkenmichi 5-chome shopping street and passing through the Taisho-suji and Shin-Nagata Ichibangai arcades to Tetsujin Hiroba.

Can I drive there?

The organizers ask visitors to come by city bus or subway. Tetsujin Hiroba is about a 3-minute walk from Shin-Nagata Station, which is 11 minutes from Sannomiya on the subway or 9 minutes from JR Sannomiya.
