Why You Should Visit

For two days, manufacturers around Nagata and Hyogo wards in Kobe open their normally closed factories and workshops to the public. 2026 is the fifth edition. Nagata is Kobe's shoemaking district, and the line-up reflects it: women's shoe makers sit alongside the firms that make lasts, shank parts and sewing machines. More than 30 companies take part in all, from welding, plastic machining and a sawmill to embroidery, glass and a baumkuchen bakery, offering tours and workshops. Entry is free, and many sites are within walking distance of Shin-Nagata Station. A good pick for anyone curious about how things are made, and for families.
