Dates & time: September 21, 2026 (Mon) - November 3, 2026 (Tue) Follows each shop's opening hours (chestnut picking Sep 21–Oct 12, raw chestnut sales Sep 26–Oct 18, food and sweets until Nov 3)
cost: Free to take part (food and purchases charged per shop; e.g. mont blanc ¥1,500, chestnut rice set ¥2,500, raw chestnuts at market price)
Venue & access: Participating shops across Tamba-Sasayama and Tamba (chestnut farms, confectioners, restaurants, farm stands) Central Tamba-Sasayama is about 15 minutes by Shinki Green Bus from JR Sasayamaguchi Station on the Fukuchiyama Line; for Tamba, start from JR Kaibara Station. By car, use the Tannan-Sasayamaguchi or Kasuga IC on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. The shops are spread across a wide area, so a car is the practical way round.

Why You Should Visit

An autumn fair for tasting Tamba chestnuts, famed as Japan's largest, at the source during harvest. Chestnut farms, confectioners, restaurants and farm stands across Tamba-Sasayama and Tamba join in with seasonal mont blancs, chestnut rice, raw chestnuts sold direct and pick-your-own farms. A stamp rally across the shops and an Instagram campaign run alongside, and the dates overlap with the Tamba-yaki pottery festival, so the two pair well for a day out.

Until when can I buy raw chestnuts?

Raw chestnuts are scheduled from September 26 to October 18. Dates shift with the harvest and some shops stop once sold out.

Do I need to book for chestnut picking?

Each chestnut farm handles bookings differently. Check with the farm before you go.
