Why You Should Visit

An autumn food event at Michi-no-Eki Kannabe Kogen roadside station in Hidaka, Toyooka, built around Kannabe negi. These green onions are grown in the area's kuroboku soil, a dark mix of volcanic ash and leaf mold. On the day there are free tastings of dishes made with Kannabe negi and discount sales of highland vegetables, plus grilled calçots-style negi, a special negi bread, dried fish and vegetables grown by Tajima Agricultural High School students. A good stop on a drive up to the Kannabe plateau if you want to stock up on seasonal onions and local produce.
