Price & booking: Tea gathering ¥700 / evening yoga ¥1,000 (participation fees). The official page does not state how park admission is handled on the day (regular admission is ¥400 for adults, ¥200 for children). The stage program and moon observation are free to come and go. The tea gathering is first-come, first-served on the day (130 seats, ends when the tea runs out). Only the evening yoga requires advance booking: 30 places, applications from August 17 on a first-come basis.
Venue & access: Suma Rikyu Park (Fountain Plaza, Tsukimidai Rest House, Shiomidai Observatory, Japanese-style room) About 10 minutes walk from JR Suma Kaihin Koen Station. Also accessible from Sanyo Railway Tsukimiyama Station, but JR is more economical.

Why You Should Visit

A one-night moon-viewing event at Suma Rikyu Park, where the Heian-era poet Ariwara no Yukihira is said to have gazed at the moon. Live performances run from 17:00 to 20:30 at the Fountain Plaza, including the one-stringed Suma koto, hula, jazz and erhu. At the Tsukimidai rest house, the Kobe University astronomy club sets up telescopes for moon observation, and there is also a tea gathering in the Japanese-style room and an evening yoga session at Shiomidai. The park stays open until 21:00 for the occasion.
