Closed Thursdays (open on holidays; special openings on Nov 19 and 26)
Price & booking: Admission: ¥400 (age 15 and over) / ¥200 (elementary and junior high students). The matcha by maple light (¥500) and the maple tea gathering (¥700) are charged separately. No booking needed. The matcha by maple light and the maple tea gathering are first-come, first-served on the day.
Venue & access: Suma Rikyu Park, Kobe (botanical garden area and Fountain Plaza) About a 10-minute walk from JR Suma-Kaihinkoen Station. By car, use the main park car park (¥700 per car).

Why You Should Visit

An autumn-leaves season at Suma Rikyu Park, timed to the roughly 600 Japanese maples in the botanical garden area. Along the maple path and in the Japanese garden, the reds are joined by the yellows and russets of dawn redwood, bald cypress, katsura and Chinese sweetgum. On weekends and holidays the park stays open until 20:00 for "Suma Rikyu Lumière", with illuminations and lit-up autumn trees around the Fountain Plaza in the main park. Walk the maples in daylight, then cross to the Fountain Plaza after dark — a good weekend evening for anyone who wants both the leaves and the garden at night.

How late can I stay in the park?

Until 17:00 on weekdays and 20:00 on weekends and holidays, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. The light-up takes place on the weekend and holiday evenings when the park stays open until 20:00.

Is the park closed on any days?

The park closes on Thursdays (except holidays). During this period it opens specially on Thursday, November 19 and 26.

Where are the autumn leaves and the light-up?

The maples are mainly along the maple path and in the Japanese garden in the botanical garden area. The Lumière illuminations and light-up are around the Fountain Plaza in the main park.
