Why You Should Visit

Every autumn, the Kobe Municipal Forest Botanical Garden, on the north side of Mount Rokko, holds its Autumn Leaves Stroll. Walk among Japanese maples and trees from around the world as they turn red and gold. On weekends and holidays during the period the garden stays open until 19:30, and from 16:30 the metasequoias, Japanese maples and zelkovas are lit up. Full-color lights on the tall trees give the forest a very different feel after dark. Good for a family walk in the woods by day, or an evening of autumn-leaf photography.

Café

Forest café le Pic serves an autumn menu (sweet potato desserts and more). Open until 19:00 (last order 18:30) on light-up weekends and holidays

Autumn concerts by Kobe Shinwa University and pianist Hiroyuki Ishida are planned (dates to be announced on the official site)

Is there a light-up on weekdays?

No. The light-up runs on weekends and holidays only, 16:30–19:30. On weekdays the garden closes at 17:00.

Is there an extra charge for the light-up?

Viewing is free with garden admission (¥300 adults, ¥150 elementary and junior high students). Lantern rental is ¥500.

Can I get there without a car?
