FAQ

Is the ropeway required? Can I walk up?
The ropeway is not required. You can reach the herb garden on foot in about 40 minutes from Shin-Kobe Station via the Nunobiki Falls hiking trail. Please wear comfortable shoes as the path is mountainous. A popular option is to hike up and take the ropeway back down.
Which season is the best time to visit?
The most recommended period is May–June when roses and lavender bloom simultaneously (Rose Festival). Autumn (September–November) for cosmos and red kochia, and winter (late November–December) for Christmas illuminations are also spectacular. July–August on weekends and holidays offers night operations with cool evening views. One of this garden's great strengths is that there is always something worth seeing year-round.
How do I get there from Shin-Kobe Station?
From Shin-Kobe Station (Kobe Municipal Subway or Shinkansen), it is about a 5-minute walk to the ropeway lower station. The ropeway runs every 30 seconds so no timetable is needed. The ride takes about 10 minutes with a mid-station stop at Kaze-no-Oka. The herb garden entrance is right at the top station.
Is there parking? Can I get there by car?
Paid parking is available near the ropeway lower station, though spaces are limited and may fill up on weekends. Please note there is no vehicle access to the mountaintop — you must park at the base and ride the ropeway. Using public transport via Shin-Kobe Station (Shinkansen or subway) is the most convenient option.
When can I enjoy the night views and illuminations?
Night operations run on weekends and public holidays, during summer vacation (July 20–August 31), and during the Christmas season (late November–late December), with the garden open until 20:15 (last ropeway down at 20:45). Kobe's famed 'ten-million-dollar night view' from 400m elevation is truly spectacular. The Christmas season adds illuminations for an especially magical atmosphere. Night admission is cheaper than daytime rates (adults ¥1,400), making it excellent value.
Is it suitable for families with children or elderly visitors?
The ropeway and in-garden elevators make most areas accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. Nursing rooms and diaper-changing facilities are available, making it family-friendly for young children too. Some garden paths have steep slopes, so checking the garden map beforehand will help. The main pathways connecting themed gardens are well-maintained; a relaxed stroll through all zones takes about 2 hours.
