Why You Should Visit
A chance to step inside the Former Hassam House, the Western-style mansion standing at the back of Sorakuen Garden's lawn. The two-story wooden house was built around 1902 by the British trader Hassam, who lived there, and was moved to Sorakuen in 1963. Most of the year you can only see it from outside, but during this period you can walk through the dining room with its fireplace, the staircase hall and the bay-windowed rooms. It opens on weekends and public holidays in October and November, plus Nov 24, 25 and 27. Entry to the house is free; you only pay the garden admission.
