Why You Should Visit

Komyo-ji Temple in Nagaokakyo, Kyoto Prefecture, holds a special autumn-leaves opening from November 14 to December 6. The Momiji Sando approach that runs from the main gate is roofed by maples said to be around 150 years old, and it is one of the best-known foliage spots in Kyoto's Nishiyama hills. Tickets are sold at a temporary booth in front of the main gate, and a visit to the grounds takes about 40 minutes. The temple has no parking during the foliage season and parking is banned in the surrounding streets, so come by bus from Hankyu Nagaoka-Tenjin Station or JR Nagaokakyo Station.
