Why You Should Visit
For four nights in November, Omido Kannon-ji in the Fugenji district of Kyotanabe lights up its grounds after dark. The autumn leaves and main hall are illuminated, bamboo lanterns line the approach, and Japanese umbrella installations glow in the precincts. During the event you can see the temple's National Treasure, the standing Eleven-faced Kannon, at night, and there is a photo spot styled after an outdoor tea ceremony. Viewing the light-up is free, and food booths join the event in 2026. A quieter alternative to central Kyoto's crowded autumn spots for an evening temple walk.
