Why You Should Visit
For three days Meriken Park turns into a slice of India at the 15th India Mela, Kobe's annual Indian festival. Food stalls serve curry, tandoori chicken, samosas and chai, while vendor booths sell Indian crafts, clothing and spices. On the stage, Kathak and Bharatanatyam classical dance, Bollywood dance, tabla and other instrumental music, and yoga sessions run from morning to night. This year also features a mass Bollywood dance number that aims to get 1,000 people dancing together. Admission is free, making it an easy stop for anyone who wants to graze on Indian food by the harbour or bring the family for a taste of another culture.
