Dates & time: September 19, 2026 (Sat) - September 23, 2026 (Wed) Sep 19–23 (varies by event; Ujiko Hohei-sai Sep 20 at 11:00, Takigi Noh Sep 19 at 18:00)
Price & booking: Free to enter the grounds. Only the Ikuta Takigi Noh requires a ticket: advance ¥2,500 adults / ¥2,000 students (elementary and up); on the day ¥3,000 / ¥2,500. Takigi Noh tickets are issued at the Ikuta Shrine Juyosho (9:00–17:00). No sign-up is needed for the other rites and dedications.
Venue & access: Ikuta Shrine (1-2-1 Shimoyamatedori, Chuo-ku, Kobe) About 5 minutes on foot from Subway Sannomiya Station (about 10 minutes from JR Sannomiya or Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya). By car, use the paid parking lots around Sannomiya.

There are 12 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Ikuta Shrine (1-2-1 Shimoyamatedori, Chuo-ku, Kobe), and 3 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Why You Should Visit

The autumn grand festival of Ikuta Shrine in the heart of Sannomiya. The Autumn Grand Festival and Ujiko Hohei-sai on Sep 20 rank alongside the spring Ikuta Matsuri as the shrine's major rites, praying for the safety and prosperity of Kobe. Festivities run five days: Takigi Noh by firelight on the 19th (Kyogen "Busu", Noh "Matsumushi"), an evening of gagaku on the 21st, martial-arts dedications on the 22nd and an evening of strings on the 23rd, with around 10 food stalls in the car park throughout.

NOTE

Prayer services (gokito): on Sep 20 (Sun) and Sep 21 (Mon) no prayer services are held in the morning because of the autumn rites. On both days they start at 13:00. Reception is at the Juyosho east of the tower gate on the 20th, and moves to the first-floor lobby of Ikuta Jinja Kaikan on the 21st (an Inu-no-hi day).

Food stalls: around 10 vendors in the car park, Sep 19–23.

Takigi Noh: starts 18:00 (doors 17:30) on the special stage in the grounds; moves to the Haiden if wet.

Can I receive a prayer service during the autumn festival?

On September 20 (Sun) and 21 (Mon) prayer services are not available in the morning due to the autumn rites; on both days they begin at 13:00.

Can visitors attend or watch the rites?

The Takigi Noh can be watched with a ticket (advance from ¥2,500 for adults). The official notice lists no ticket for the martial-arts dedications, the gagaku evening or the strings evening. For attendance at the rites themselves, contact Ikuta Shrine.

When are the noh and gagaku evening performances?

In 2026: Takigi Noh on Sat Sep 19 at 18:00 (Kyogen "Busu", Noh "Matsumushi"), the gagaku evening on Mon Sep 21 at 19:00, martial-arts dedications on Tue Sep 22 from 17:00 to 19:30, and the strings evening on Wed Sep 23 at 15:00.
