Eigenji Temple Autumn Leaves Light-up 2026

Dates & time: November 14, 2026 (Sat) - November 28, 2026 (Sat) 8:00–20:00 (until 18:30 Monday to Thursday). Light-up from 17:00
Price & booking: Temple admission: adults ¥600, junior high ¥200, elementary age and under free (groups of 20+ ¥500). Tea seat ¥700 extra. No booking needed for regular or evening visits. Volunteer-guided tours are booked through the Eigenji Tourist Information Center (0748-27-2020).
Venue & access: Eigenji Temple, Eigenji Takano-cho, Higashiomi (Shiga) From Yokaichi Station (Ohmi Railway), take the Ohmi Bus Misono Line to Eigenji-mae (35 min). By car, 20 minutes from Yokaichi IC on the Meishin Expressway.

Why You Should Visit

At Eigenji, a head temple in Higashiomi, Shiga, visiting hours open earlier at 8:00 for the November foliage season, and from November 14 to 28 the grounds are lit up for evening visits. From November 7 the Ganku-in garden and the Hyogetsu-tei tea seat open, and from November 7 to 23 volunteer guides lead tours that include special access to the prefecture-designated main gate (sanmon) and a viewing of the cloud-dragon painting in the Dharma hall. The temple notes that this year's maples are turning a little early, so it suits visitors who want to see the leaves by day and the illuminated grounds after dark.

Light-up & evening visits: Nov 14 (Sat)–Nov 28 (Sat), from 17:00. Visitors are not rotated out.
Ganku-in garden & Hyogetsu-tei tea seat: Nov 7 (Sat)–Nov 30 (Mon), 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:45). A set ticket combining admission and the tea seat is available.
Volunteer guides: Nov 7 (Sat)–Nov 23 (Mon, holiday). Special access to the sanmon gate and the cloud-dragon painting in the Dharma hall is for tour participants only.

Parking

Daihonzan Eigenji Parking (34 spaces) faces Tandobashi Bridge on Route 421; there is also space for about 15 cars below the rear approach.
Private car parks open during the foliage season, about ¥500 per car.

How late does the light-up run?

From November 14 to 28, the gates close at 20:00 Friday to Sunday and at 18:30 Monday to Thursday.

Do I need to book the volunteer guide?

Bookings are taken by the Eigenji Tourist Information Center (0748-27-2020). The sanmon gate and the cloud-dragon painting are open only to tour participants.

Is there parking?
