Why You Should Visit

A contemporary art festival held at Jogonin, a temple in Azuchi, Omihachiman, with work by 30 artists from Japan and abroad. Jogonin is known as "Nobunaga's temple" for its ties to Oda Nobunaga. The 2026 theme is "Real", and the line-up includes Venice Biennale artist Nikita Kadan from Ukraine. Mostly on weekends, the program adds taiko drumming, butoh and contemporary dance, soprano, Chinese pipa and jazz concerts, gallery talks by the artists and a tea ceremony. It is a walk from JR Azuchi Station, so it pairs well with a day around Azuchi's historic temples.
