Why You Should Visit

For the first time, Saikyo-ji Temple in Sakamoto, Otsu, is opening the interior of its Kyakuden (guest hall), a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. The Momoyama-period shoin-style hall is said to have been moved here from Fushimi Castle, and inside you can see the jodan-no-ma, described as Hideyoshi's throne room, along with sliding-door paintings by the Kano school. This is the second opening period after the spring session in April and May, timed with the NHK taiga drama "Toyotomi Kyodai!". It pairs well with a walk around Sakamoto, the old temple town at the foot of Mt. Hiei.
