Why You Should Visit

Kyorinbo, known as the "Stone Temple", sits in the hills of Azuchi in Omihachiman, Shiga, and lights up its grounds on autumn evenings during the foliage season. More than 300 large maple trees across the 2,000-tsubo (about 6,600 square meters) temple grounds are illuminated together with the bamboo groves that surround them. The temple has a scenic garden attributed to Kobori Enshu and is open to visitors only in limited seasons. Daytime visits are also possible, and evening entry closes at 19:00. A good choice if you want autumn leaves at a quiet mountain temple away from the Kyoto crowds.
