Price & booking: ¥4,000 per lantern (tax incl.), plus booking fees (online: ¥189 per order + ¥127 per ticket; phone: ¥300 per order + ¥127 per ticket) Lanterns are sold in advance only, from Friday 16 October to Friday 20 November (up to 500, until sold out). Book via the ticket link on Joukan Planning's event page or by phone at the Joukan Ticket Center (050-8893-5051, weekdays 12:00–16:00), then pay and collect at a 7-Eleven. Bookings not paid within three days are cancelled. No sales on the day.
Venue & access: Otsu Port Symbol Green Park (Otsu, Shiga) About 4 minutes on foot from Keihan Biwako-Hamaotsu Station, or about 20 minutes from JR Otsu Station. Visitors are asked to use public transport.

Why You Should Visit

A lantern event run by the Otsu Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurs Group (Otsu YEG) at Otsu Port Symbol Green Park on the shore of Lake Biwa. On the evening of Saturday 5 December, participants release up to 500 lanterns into the winter sky over the lake for half an hour from 18:00. Lanterns cost ¥4,000 each and are sold in advance only, until Friday 20 November; there are no tickets on the day. The event goes ahead in rain but is cancelled in stormy weather. A good fit if you want to send a lantern up over Lake Biwa at dusk or mark a special occasion.

Can I buy a lantern at the venue on the day?

No. Lanterns are sold in advance only, from 16 October to 20 November, and sales end once all 500 are gone.

What happens if it rains?

The event goes ahead in rain and is cancelled only in stormy weather. Lantern fees are not refunded if it is cancelled.

Can I get there by train?

Yes. It is about a 4-minute walk from Keihan Biwako-Hamaotsu Station, and visitors are asked to come by public transport.
