Why You Should Visit
Held every year on the third Sunday of October, this is Yoshinoyama's whole-community autumn festival giving thanks for the harvest. Three futon-daiko drum floats, one each from the upper, middle and lower parts of town, are carried along the temple approach and finally gather in front of Kinpusen-ji's Zaodo Hall. Each float weighs about a tonne, and the procession is a Shinto rite offering thanks for the harvest to Tenman Shrine. After the ritual, offerings are handed out to locals and visitors alike. Best known for its cherry blossoms, Yoshinoyama shows a more everyday, local side on this autumn day.
