Why You Should Visit

Daianji in Nara City opens the doors on its principal image, a hidden Eleven-Headed Kannon standing statue and an Important Cultural Property, every October and November. The statue dates from the Tenpyo era of the 8th century and stands at the center of the main hall, where it stays behind closed doors for the rest of the year. Admission during the opening is ¥800, ¥200 more than usual, and also covers the treasure hall. In March the temple opens a different hidden image, a Bato Kannon statue, so Daianji rewards visitors who come back in another season to see more of this great Nara-period temple's Buddhist art.
