Why You Should Visit

Daianji, which served as a cosmopolitan guesthouse for foreign envoys in the Nara period, has hosted this festival every November 3 since 2010. The temple-ground stage features taiko drumming, shakuhachi, Korean court dance and songs and dances by international students from their home countries, while student-run stalls serve home-style dishes from around the world. There are also hands-on corners for go and shogi, sencha tea and Japanese sweet making, and everything in the precincts is free to enter. A relaxed day of world cultures at one of Nara's oldest temples, good for families too.
