Why You Should Visit

A community disaster-preparedness event hosted by Kobe Gakuin University in the Minatojima area of Port Island. Using the campus lawn and the waterfront park and quay next to it, it brings an earthquake simulator truck called "Yurerun," emergency vehicle displays and hands-on preparedness booths. In the afternoon, the Kobe Water Fire Station and local disaster-prevention groups run a joint drill, and the fireboat "Takatori" puts on a water-cannon display out on the harbor. Kobe city fire, water and port departments, the local weather office and nearby universities take part. Free with no registration — a practical outing for families who want to learn how to prepare with their kids.
