Why You Should Visit

A Kyoto market built around "eco x creative," held more than 50 times a year as it rotates between four venues in the city. On August 22 and 23 it takes over the main park road at Umekoji Park, lining the tree-shaded walk toward Kyoto Aquarium and the Kyoto Railway Museum with booths from handmade, traditional craft, upcycle and AI art creators, plus food trucks. The event runs strictly zero-waste — vendors and visitors alike carry their trash home — and a performer in a Noh mask walks the grounds picking up litter as part of the Okina Project. With lawns and water nearby, it pairs easily with an aquarium visit if you're out with kids.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee or a reservation?
Admission is free and no reservation is needed — come and go freely during opening hours. You pay each vendor directly for food and goods.
Is it always at the same place?
No. It rotates between four venues — Umekoji Park, Okazaki Park, Ohigashisan Hiroba and Zest Oike — and opening hours differ by venue. Check the schedule page on the official site for the date you plan to visit.
What happens if it rains?
The three outdoor venues (Umekoji Park, Okazaki Park, Ohigashisan Hiroba) may be cancelled or changed in bad weather — check the official Instagram (@neomarche_event) on the day. Zest Oike is underground, so it runs rain or shine.
Are there trash cans on site?
No — the event runs zero-waste, so there are no visitor trash cans. You're expected to take your rubbish home, so bringing a small bag helps.
