Venue & access: Ohigashi-san Hiroba, Higashi Hongan-ji About a 7-minute walk north up Karasuma-dori from the Karasuma Central Gate of JR Kyoto Station (or 5 minutes south from Gojo Station on the Karasuma subway line). No event parking is listed, so drivers should use the coin lots nearby.

Why You Should Visit

A marche and flea market held on the temple-front plaza of Higashi Hongan-ji, a short walk from Kyoto Station. Handmade goods, antiques and second-hand finds, flowers and clothing share the square with food tents and kitchen cars. It runs from 9:00 to 17:00, which makes it easy to fold into a trip — drop by the morning you arrive in Kyoto, or kill an hour before your train home. The whole thing is one open plaza you can loop in a few minutes, so a short visit works fine.

Is there an admission fee?

It takes place on the open plaza in front of the temple and is free to enter, with no booking required. You only pay for what you eat or buy.

When is the next one?

At Higashi Hongan-ji the scheduled dates are 14 October 2026, 10 November, and 27 January and 9 February 2027. The Heian Jingu (Okazaki Park) site runs on its own separate schedule.

Is it held in the rain?

It runs on an open outdoor plaza, and the organisers do not publish a set rain policy. If strong wind or heavy rain is forecast, check the official site or Instagram on the morning of the market.
