Why You Should Visit

Kyoto's night market returns to the plaza in front of Higashi Honganji with 90-plus food and craft stalls. The 17th edition, held the week before Respect for the Aged Day, is a "Silver Festival" that puts the older generation centre stage. Miyajima's tourism association sets up shop with rice-paddle branding, Miyajima crafts and momiji manju. There are ninja shows, street performers, monkey acts, rickshaw rides and a kids' shopkeeper experience, plus free wagashi on the 12th and chilled zenzai on the 13th. A short walk from Kyoto Station, it is built for grandparents and grandchildren to enjoy a night out together.
