Why You Should Visit

A new two-day craft festival, held for the first time at Shozan Resort Kyoto in the Takagamine area of northern Kyoto. Around 30 contemporary craft artists show and sell their work across the resort's gardens and historic buildings. The theme is "the beauty of use, from here on", treating craft not just as handwork but as a way of thinking about nature and daily life. Alongside the exhibition there are tea ceremonies, a tea-kaiseki dinner served on artists' ware, workshops and talk sessions. A good fit if you want to buy tableware and tools directly from the people who make them.
