Why You Should Visit

An art event placing works by 13 Kyoto-connected artists in nine spots around the city — hotels, a hostel, a public bathhouse, shops and City Hall — for visitors to seek out. "Gekiryo" means an inn, and the idea is to treat the whole of Kyoto, a city that has always received people and things, as one lodging. This year Isabella Tam, a curator at Hong Kong's M+ museum, writes a travelogue covering every venue and work. All displays are free and works are for sale — a reason to step into buildings you might otherwise walk past.

No. All displays are free to view.

Yes, the displays are open to the public. Hours and exact spots differ by venue, so check the event website before going.
