Why You Should Visit

Sennyuji, the family temple of the Imperial House, shows all 42 panels of the fusuma sliding-door paintings "Mitera Tsukinowa: Shiki Taikanzu" for just ten days. The work was dedicated to mark the 800th memorial of the temple's founder, Master Gachirin, and was painted over about a year by Shanghai-based artist Fang Youmin, depicting flowers and the life of nature through the four seasons. It is displayed in the Kohojo, a hall moved here from the Imperial Palace in 1884. This is the second showing after the first public viewing in September, and photography of the paintings is allowed. A good stop if you want to see contemporary fusuma art inside a historic building.
