Why You Should Visit

Gion Odori is the autumn dance performance by the geiko and maiko of Gion Higashi, one of Kyoto's geisha districts. It runs for ten days from 1 November at Gion Kaikan, just below the stone steps of Yasaka Shrine. The 67th edition in 2026 presents the programme "Kyoraku Gyokusui no Megumi", about an hour long and performed twice a day. A ticket with tea ceremony adds a tea seating to the show. A good way to see geisha dance in autumn, easily combined with an autumn-leaves walk around Gion.

access: Right by the Gion city bus stop, or 10 min on foot from Gion-Shijo Station (Keihan Line).
TICKETS / REGISTRATION: Tickets are sold via the official online shop until 28 October and at JTB, Kinki Nippon Tourist and Nippon Travel Agency branches until late October. From 30 October they are sold at the Gion Kaikan box office (11:00–16:00), which also handles same-day tickets. Children under 3 are not admitted.

Can I attend without any connection to a tea house?

Yes. Tickets are on general sale via the official online shop, at Gion Kaikan and through ticket agents.

What is the difference between the two ticket types?

The 7,000-yen ticket adds a tea seating to the show; the 6,000-yen ticket covers the performance only.

How long is the show?

About one hour. Shows start at 13:30 and 16:00, with doors opening about 40 minutes before each.
