Price & booking: Combined ticket for Shosei-en and Shigenobu Kaikan: advance ¥3,500 adults / ¥2,500 students / ¥1,700 junior and senior high / ¥1,200 elementary and under (¥200 more on the day). Satellite and YouMe Open venues are free Buy tickets online via Peatix as directed on the official ticket page (advance prices until 8 Oct, day prices after). Cash on the day is accepted only at the Shigenobu Kaikan desk; Shosei-en takes online payment only. Re-entry allowed on the same day. Walk & Talk (daily 14:00–16:00, ¥5,000 bundled with the combined ticket) has limited places and needs advance booking.
Venue & access: Shosei-en Garden (Kikoku-tei), Shigenobu Kaikan and satellite venues around Kyoto Shosei-en is about a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, on the east side of Higashi Hongan-ji; Shigenobu Kaikan is just west of the garden. Public transport recommended.

There are 12 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Shosei-en Garden (Kikoku-tei), Shigenobu Kaikan and satellite venues around Kyoto, and 3 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Why You Should Visit

The first edition of an international exhibition spanning art, design and craft. The main venues are Shosei-en, the National Scenic garden of Higashi Hongan-ji, and Shigenobu Kaikan, a 1930 building; curators from the UK, Italy, India, Qatar and Japan each stage a show. Shosei-en hosts "I Am. We Are. Liberty", an archive exhibition marking Liberty's 150th year, plus a group show of young artists working with craft techniques; Shigenobu Kaikan stacks country exhibitions from basement to third floor. Pentagram's Harry Pearce designed the identity, and the plan is to return every three years. For anyone who wants to see the works together with the garden and the architecture.

FAQ

Can I buy tickets at the venue?

Cash tickets on the day are sold only at the Shigenobu Kaikan desk; Shosei-en accepts online payment only. If you start at Shosei-en, buy online beforehand.

Are any venues free?

The satellite venues and YouMe Open venues around Kyoto are free. Only the two main venues, Shosei-en and Shigenobu Kaikan, are ticketed.

Can I re-enter after leaving?

One ticket covers both Shosei-en and Shigenobu Kaikan and allows re-entry on the same day. If you bought online, show the QR code at the desk.
