Minpaku Special Exhibition: Living by the Saru River 2026

Why You Should Visit

Autumn 2026 special exhibition at the National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku) in Suita. The Saru River flows from Hokkaido's Hidaka Mountains to the Pacific, and its valley has long been home to the Ainu. The exhibition presents crafts collected there whose makers and users are known, shown together with photographs, documents and the words of their descendants, tracing the lives of people who lived through the rapid changes of the modern era. The ticket also covers the main galleries. Lectures, performances and film screenings run during the exhibition.

FAQ

When is the museum closed?

Every Wednesday. If Wednesday is a public holiday, the museum opens and closes on the next weekday instead.

Do I also need to pay the Expo '70 Park entry fee?

Not if you are only visiting the museum. Adults and university students buy the museum ticket at any park gate and pass through free of charge; high school age and under, and Friends of Minpaku members, ask at the staffed gate window for a pass. Park admission is needed only if you also want to explore the park.
