Price & booking: On the day: ¥1,800 adults, ¥1,200 university students, ¥900 for over-70s, free for high school students and younger. With a disability certificate ¥450 / ¥300, plus one carer free. Advance (until 9 Oct) ¥1,600 / ¥1,000. The collection exhibition is ticketed separately, with a discount for the combination No booking needed. Advance tickets are sold 31 Jul – 9 Oct via Seven Ticket, Lawson Ticket (L code 51583), Ticket Pia (P code 687-532), e+, CN Playguide, Asoview, Rakuten Travel Experiences, tabiwa and the museum shop (general advance tickets only). They are not sold once the exhibition opens.
Venue & access: Gallery 1F, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art About an 8-minute walk south from Iwaya Station on the Hanshin line, 10 minutes from the south exit of JR Nada Station, or 20 minutes southeast from Hankyu Kobe-Sannomiya. By car about 5 minutes from the Maya exit of Hanshin Expressway Route 3, with paid parking under the museum.

There are 4 car parks within a 12-minute walk of Gallery 1F, Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, and 1 public restrooms within 8 minutes. The map shows each with its walking time.

Why You Should Visit

Matsukata Kojiro (1866-1950), president of Kawasaki Dockyard, gathered more than ten thousand works in Europe; Yamamura Tokutaro (1926-1986), born in Nishinomiya, spent thirty years collecting postwar Japanese avant-garde art. Their collections meet for the first time. From the Matsukata Collection at the National Museum of Western Art come Rodin's The Thinker and The Gates of Hell among other sculpture and modern art; from the Yamamura Collection here come works centred on the Gutai Art Association. It marks 160 years since Matsukata's birth and 100 since Yamamura's, and high school students and younger enter free. Related events include a kyogen performance and a symposium on sculpture.

Is it free for high school students?

High school students and younger enter free; bring ID showing your age.

Is it closed on Mondays?

Mondays are closed, but it opens on the holidays of 12 October and 23 November and closes instead on the 13th and 24th.

Can I see Rodin's The Thinker?
