Why You Should Visit
The Kyoto Railway Museum is displaying two KuMoYa 145 service cars, Nos. 1106 and 1201, from JR West's Kyoto depot for six days. The KuMoYa 145 is a work train used to rescue broken-down trains and to haul cars and parts between depots, easy to spot with its blue body and yellow front. The cars drive in under their own power over a siding connected to the main line and stand on the first floor of the main building. Part of car 1201's interior is open to visitors for free, and there are also cab-tour tickets and guided talks by maintenance staff. A rare chance to get close to trains that never carry passengers, great for rail fans and families with train-loving kids.
