Price & booking: Free admission (food and drinks are paid) No reservation needed; just turn up on the day.
Venue & access: Okazaki Park (in front of Heian Jingu) About 10 minutes' walk from Exit 1 of Higashiyama Station (Tozai subway line), or 5 minutes from the Okazaki Koen Bijutsukan / Heian Jingu-mae city bus stop.

Why You Should Visit

A two-day open-air food festival run by Kyoto Ryori Gijutsu Shinkokai, a group of Kyoto restaurant owner-chefs. Twenty-three booths line the Jingu-michi avenue in Okazaki Park, right in front of Heian Jingu, selling one-off dishes made with Kyoto-raised beef, pork and chicken along with local eggs, dairy and vegetables. Beer, wine and raclette cheese stalls round it out, and entry is free. A good fit if you want to graze through meat dishes from several Kyoto restaurants with the shrine gate as a backdrop.
