Why You Should Visit

Kyoto City is running a trial that links Pontocho Park to the Kamogawa riverbank with temporary stairs. For about three weeks you can walk straight down from the park to the river, and the park itself gets chairs, tables and a lawn corner for lingering. On November 13 and 14, food booths set up in the park serving craft beer, Japanese sake, kamameshi pot rice, shumai and takoyaki. Entry is free with no booking, so it makes an easy riverside break while exploring Pontocho and the Kamogawa.
