Why You Should Visit

An exhibition of handmade chairs by woodworkers where you are free to sit in each one and compare. It takes place in the Annex Hall of the Museum of Kyoto, a Western-style building from the Meiji era, and every maker's chair differs in shape and feel. Many makers are on site, so you can ask them directly about wood choice or seat angles. Held roughly every two years, this is the sixth edition. Entry is free, making it worth a stop whether you are shopping for furniture or just strolling along Sanjo-dori.

NOTE

Previous edition

  • The 5th edition in 2024 showed about 70 chairs by 36 makers
