Kyoto Night Market: Halloween Monster Night 2026

Why You Should Visit

Kyoto Night Market, usually held in the plaza in front of Higashi Honganji, moves downtown for a special Halloween edition. Over two days you wander between Kyoto City Hall Plaza above ground and the Kawaramachi Plaza in the Zest Oike underground mall, with more than 60 food trucks, food stalls, craft, goods and workshop booths. On the evening of the 4th a yokai parade winds from the plaza down into the mall, followed by a Tsugaru shamisen show and an acrobatic ninja show. Underground, a workshop lets you paint a face on a foam pumpkin and take it home, on both days. Entry is free and the venue sits right on top of a subway station, so it works well with children.

Directly connected to Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station on the Subway Tozai Line. Zest Oike links to the station; City Hall Plaza is right at the exit above ground.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee?

No, entry is free. No booking needed, and you can move freely between the two venues.

When is the yokai parade?

Sunday October 4 from 18:00. It starts at Kyoto City Hall Plaza and winds into Zest Oike. There is no parade on the 3rd.

Is it good for children?

Yes. The pumpkin-painting workshop, kids' shopkeeper experience, monkey show and ninja show give children plenty to do.

Is it held in the rain?

No weather policy has been announced. Zest Oike is underground, but check the official site or Instagram before you go for the City Hall Plaza side.
