Why You Should Visit

A two-day event at Kyoto Botanical Garden bringing together groups, schools and individuals working on wildlife and nature conservation. In 2026 it is held as a commemorative event for the 43rd National Urban Greening Fair in Kyoto Tamba, with booths, merchandise, nature walks and workshops using natural materials on both days. On the 26th, the botanical garden, Kyoto City Zoo and Kyoto Aquarium run workshops, and there is a nature game and a big rock-paper-scissors contest on the main lawn. A stamp rally around the garden makes it an easy family day out.

Right by Kitayama Station (Karasuma Subway Line), or about 5 min on foot from the Shokubutsuen-mae city bus stop. Visitors are asked to use public transport.

Main workshops

Training room (Garden Hall 2F): harvest mouse nests, cicada shells, smartphone microscopes, nut crafts, planarian observation and strap making, curries of the world, and more
Booths: singing sand, pine-cone hanging trees, twig-whistle dolls, bird calls, mini bonsai, moss terrariums, thatched-roof making, bamboo pens, colouring and card games, and more

Do I need to book?

Some workshops and nature walks need advance booking. The list is updated on the official site.

Is the programme different on the 26th and 27th?

Booths, sales, workshops and nature walks run on both days. The Ikimono Hiroba with the zoo and aquarium, and the nature game and rock-paper-scissors contest, are on the 26th only.

What happens if it rains?

It is cancelled in severe weather. Check the official site on the day.
