Why You Should Visit

A special exhibition of Kawanabe Kyosai, the painter who bridged the end of the samurai era and modern Japan, drawn from the collection of British collector Israel Goldman. Playful scenes of demons, skeletons, frogs and cats sit alongside meticulous Buddhist paintings and portraits of beauties. Works rotate between the first and second halves of the run, and the air-conditioned galleries make it an easy summer stop in central Kobe.
