Price & booking: Free Advance application only, with participants chosen by lottery. Apply through Kobe City's event site, Odekake KOBE. Applications run from 14:00 on Wednesday, August 5 to 23:59 on Friday, September 11, and results are due by email on Friday, September 18. Open to 30 elementary school students living in Kobe and their guardians.

Why You Should Visit

An autumn session of Suma Ward's ongoing "Sumahama Project" for local children. Thirty elementary school students living in Kobe, plus their guardians, are selected by lottery: the morning starts with a beach clean-up along Suma Beach at 9:30, then moves into a rugby session on the sand from 10:30 led by Kobelco Kobe Steelers, the League One club based in Kobe. The rugby part is aimed at beginners, so no experience is needed. Participation is free, and applications are accepted through the city's Odekake KOBE site until September 11.
