Why You Should Visit

A day of ships and harbour life at Kobe Port Terminal, timed to the call of the cruise ship Mitsui Ocean Fuji. Captains and operations directors take the stage, cruise lines set up information booths, and hands-on corners let you pose in a captain's uniform or learn sailors' knots. In the late afternoon the Kobe City Fire Department band plays the ship out of port, and UW signal flags — a wish for a safe voyage — are handed out. The following Sunday her sister ship Mitsui Ocean Sakura makes her first-ever call at Kobe. You cannot board the ships, but it's a week to see them up close.

FAQ

Can I go inside the cruise ships?
No — boarding is not possible. You can view the ships up close from the quay and join the send-off as they depart.
Do I need a reservation?
The official site lists no advance application — just turn up on the day. Hands-on corners and giveaways are limited and end once supplies run out.
Is it good for families with children?
Yes. Colouring, a ropework class, photos in a captain's uniform, and the stamp and quiz rallies are all aimed at younger visitors.
Is it cancelled if it rains?
Part or all of the event may be cancelled depending on weather. Check the Kobe Tourism Bureau Port Promotion Department site for the day's status.
