Kiyomizu-yaki Pottery Festival 2026

Why You Should Visit

Kyoto's biggest annual pottery market, held across the Kiyomizu-yaki Danchi ceramics district in Yamashina. More than 100 booths — young independent potters through to long-established kilns — line the streets, so you buy directly from the people who make the work rather than through a shop. There are craft contests between artisans, workshops families can join, and stalls selling local sweets and cooked food, making it an easy day out even if you are not shopping for tableware. 2026 marks the 50th edition, run under the new name KYOPO. Admission is free.

From Yamashina Station (JR, subway, Keihan), take Keihan Bus route 29 to Kiyomizuyaki-danchi, then walk 5 minutes. There is no parking at the venue, so come by public transport rather than car.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee?

No — admission is free, no reservation is needed, and you can come and go freely on all three days.

Is there parking?

There is no parking at the venue. During the festival, extra direct buses run from Kyoto Station (about 20 minutes) along with a free loop bus around Yamashina.

Is it held in the rain?

Yes, it goes ahead in the rain. It is cancelled in severe weather such as a typhoon, so check the official site or social accounts on the morning of your visit.

What time does it end on the final day?

The first two days run until 17:00, but the final day, 18 October, closes at 16:00. Popular kilns thin out as stock sells, so come earlier if you want a choice.

How many vendors are there, and what kind?

The official line-up lists 116 ceramics booths and 24 food stalls, 140 in total. The pottery side spans young makers to long-established kilns, mostly from Kyoto, and each vendor has an official booth number.
