Price & booking: Forest Botanical Garden admission required (adults ¥300, elementary/junior high students ¥150). The quiz, workshop and Kobe Park Snap are free; the forest tea ceremony is ¥800 with sweets. No advance booking. The quiz, workshop and Kobe Park Snap are drop-in, first come first served (100–200 places each); the tea ceremony is first come for 100 seats.
Venue & access: Forest Exhibition Hall Plaza, Kobe Municipal Forest Botanical Garden Free shuttle bus about 10 minutes from Kobe Electric Railway Kita-Suzurandai Station (scheduled service). Or about 40 minutes by bus from Sannomiya. Parking available (paid) for cars.

Why You Should Visit

A one-day, mushroom-themed event on the plaza in front of the Forest Exhibition Hall at Kobe Municipal Forest Botanical Garden. It is co-hosted with the Environmental Science Club of Hyogo Prefectural Mikage High School, known as Japan's only high school club devoted to mushrooms, and visitors can join a mushroom quiz and a keychain-making workshop. A forest concert by the school's string ensemble, an outdoor tea ceremony by its tea club, and mushroom goods for sale round out the day. A good fit for families with nature-loving kids, or for anyone combining it with an early-autumn walk in the Rokko woods.

Do I need a reservation?

No reservation is needed. The quiz, workshop and Kobe Park Snap are drop-in and first come first served (200, 100 and 100 places); the tea ceremony has 100 seats, first come.

Is it held if it rains?

It goes ahead in light rain: the concert moves to the 1st floor of the Forest Exhibition Hall and the tea ceremony is cut to 30 seats. A cancellation is posted on the official site at 17:00 the day before. It is cooler on the mountain than in the city, so bring an extra layer.

Can I also see the mushroom exhibition?

The 11th Rokko Mushroom Exhibition runs on the 2nd floor of the Forest Exhibition Hall from September 6 to December 18, so you can see it on the day of the festival as well.
