Why You Should Visit
Kaijinja Shrine, just south of Tarumi Station, holds its autumn festival every October 10–12. The 10th is the eve, the 11th the main rite, when futon-daiko drum floats kept by four local districts — Nishi-Tarumi, Higashi-Tarumi, Higashi-Takamaru and Shioya — parade and face off in the shrine grounds. On the 12th the portable shrine is carried aboard a boat and, escorted by dozens of vessels, sails the coast from Komagabayashi to Maiko. Food stalls line the grounds and viewing is free.
