Why You Should Visit

A local festival held every autumn around the site of Tsutsui Castle in Tsutsui-cho, Yamatokoriyama. The highlight is the samurai procession: participants dressed as the warlord Tsutsui Junkei and his well-known retainers Shima Sakon and Matsukura Ukon walk from the area in front of Kintetsu Tsutsui Station to the castle site. The festival opens with a ceremonial volley from a matchlock gun corps. On the same day, the seated statue of Tsutsui Junkei is shown at Kosen-ji temple, and food stalls are set up.
