Why You Should Visit

Gakuenmae Art Festa turns museums, schools and historic buildings scattered across the residential Gakuenmae district of Nara City, around Kintetsu Gakuenmae Station, into venues for contemporary artists from across Japan. Started in 2015, the festival reaches its 10th edition in 2026, running from November 7 to 15 (closed on the 9th) at venues on both sides of Gakuenmae Station, including the Yamato Bunkakan Culture Hall, the Nakano Museum of Art, Asanuma Memorial Hall and Tezukayama Gakuen. Walking between venues lets you see artworks alongside buildings you rarely get to enter, making it a good autumn stroll for anyone curious about contemporary art.
